We'll have a short break for light food, then everyone is invited to remain for the regular studies of the parshot. No birthday presents will be given, but cards and blessings are certainly welcome. The sidra she has been working on is V'Etchanan, which, per the FFOZ schedule, is the week before. For the possibility of having family there, we needed to go one week later. I hope no one sees this as a conflict. The order of service will be based upon the liturgy on the website, - Excellent time of honoring another member into the commonwealth of Israel as an adult. The study commenced after the Bat Mitzvah and great fellowship was had by all.

Yom Shabbat  August 16th , Location Michigan, Brother James Cramer's Home  1:00pm-5:00pm Parsha 45 Va’etchanan “And I besought” August 16, 2008 15 Av 5768 Deut. 3:23–7:11 Alef Melachim/1st KINGS 3, Acts 14

Yom Shabbat  August 9th , Location Michigan, Dr. Richard and Janice Clore's Home  1:00pm-5:00pm Parsha 44 Devarim “Words” August 9, 2008 8 Av 5768 Deut. 1:1–3:22 Alef Melachim/1st KINGS 2, Acts 13  8-9-08 Parsha 44 Devarim 1:1 - 3:22 1:1 Some questions concerning the reading of "the Sea of Reeds" in some translations and "the Red Sea' in others. Bro. Richard pointed out that the Hebrew text reads yom suf. vrs.4 Ashtoroth: Strongs' mentions this as being a place East of the Jordan. Interesting, and perhaps telling that it is the name of the pagans fertility goddess. vrs.11 Moshe K. makes a very interesting observation concerning the number of people this verse indicates, i.e. 4 out of every 6 people in the present world census would be of some Hebrew blood. 2:5 Again; Moshe's notes states that Esau's home was at that time in Mt. Seir. This led to a discussion concerning the children of Esau marrying into the families of Ishmael vrs.11 Emim were giants like the Raphayim. The Raphayim were like the Nephalim.  Nephalim means fallen; or more correctly, fallen ones. Mention was made that Jonathan Grey (not sure of the correctness of the name spelling) translates from the Sanskrit, before the flood man was able to travel in space.  Could it be the Nephalim or their descendants were in fact able to travel thus? The large artifacts in many locations around the world, which can only be made out from very high altitudes seem to indicate this.  Vrs 20 The Raphayim apparently were reinstituted again after the flood. The wilderness spoken of in this section may not necessarily have been desert at this time. ongoing wars, with their destruction, and the consequences of Sodom and Gommorah may have contributed to the desolation we find there today. 3:1-8 Looking at a map of ancient Israel indicated that this area east of the Jordan included a vast amount of territory. Og; the melech of Bashan was a giant. His bed frame was, (by our standards today) probably 13.5' x 6'. A discussion about some of the creationism dvd's out that show the large footprint of a young woman fossilized which; by measuring the stride, indicates she would have been in the neighborhood of 16' tall. Aleph Melechim 2: The newest archeological diggings in the city of David are finding many artifacts which collaborate with Scriptures. vrs.27 Did Melech Shlomo have the authority to cast out Avaithar? It was after all the the promise of YHWH to remove Eli's sons from the priesthood. (see I Shmuel 2:31-34. The Peshitta reads this section much differently. vrs.34  If Yoav was indeed still in the Tabernacle when he was slain, the Tabernacle would have become unclean, Thus the purification of the waters of the Red Heifer would have been needed upon all contained within as well as the Tabernacle itself. Acts 13:12 The word Torah in the RSTN version, is translated teaching in the Peshitta; whereas the KJV has 'doctrine'. Strong's #1322 mentions instruction, more in line with the reading of Torah. vrs.33 many people use this verse to indicate that Yahushua was not the Son of yHWH until after HIS death. Others claim he was not the Son until during HIS immersion when YHWH spoke out of the heavens proclaiming HIS as YHWH's Son (notes courtesy of bro. James)
