STUDIES IN AUGUST 07!

Yom Shabbat August 25th, Location outside Jackson at Dr. Richard and Janice Clore's Home 1:00-5:00PM - Parsha 49 Ki Tetze “When you go” August 25, 2007 11 Elul 5767 Deuteronomy 21:10–25:19 Alef Shmuel/1st Samuel 9, Luke 10  Excellent Shul with several different discussions that related to the Parsha. Discussions on the congregation of YHWH, and what that meant for bastards, and Edomites, and others who were said to not be able to enter into the congregation. Some felt that bastards were those not claimed by any family unit, and potentially, children born out of wedlock could be adopted into the tribe and be considered as natural sons, and could enter the congregation. Some took the verses literally and thought that it forbade them completely.  Some heavy discussions on the attire of women and men, and how that applies today, most felt that it related to men dressing up like cross dressers primarily, and did not necessarily forbid women to wear feminine pants.  Some other periphery discussions regarding the nation of Israel, and Zionism.

Yom Shabbat August 18nth, Location Waldron Michigan, at VFW HALL 1:00-5:00PM - Parsha 48 Shoftim “Judges” August 18, 2007 4 Elul 5767 Deuteronomy 16:18–21:9 Alef Shmuel/1st Samuel 8, Luke 9 Excellent Shul with several in attendance, and several discussion revolving around the Parsha

EREV Shabbat/Friday Evening, August 10nth, Location Bro. Jack Clore's Home 6:30PM-9:30PM - Parsha 47 Re’eh “Behold” August 11, 2007 27 Av 5767 Deuteronomy 11:26–16:17 Alef Shmuel/1st Samuel 7, Luke  8  - Great Erev Shabbat.  Sister C. welcomed in the Shabbat with the candle lighting ceremony. Brother T. was in attendance. We were all glad to see him. We ate dinner first, and then read the Torah portion.  We had a very interesting discussion about the tithe. The Torah seemed to indicate that those who were too far away or couldn't take his tithe to the place that YHWH designated as His place, could convert the tithe to silver and spend it on whatever their heart desired. Brother R. contended that that wasn't what was being said.  He contends that because some of us cannot take our flocks or part of our crops on a long journey, that we were allowed to convert it to silver, and when we get to the Kadosh place, we would then convert it back to crops or livestock or strong drink and give it to the temple or the Lewi, the orphan, the widow, the ger, or the needy.  That led into who were the ger, and what was "within your gates".  First we tried to define who the ger were.  Brother Troy said that through his studies he found that the ger were people who were not actually Israelites, but kept the Torah and believed in YHWH, and the goy were those who could be Israelites or non-Israelites who did not believe in YHWH and did not keep the Torah. We all seemed to agree that within your gates meant within your city, or village.    We also discussed how Pesach was kept by the Israelites in the desert, and during the time of the second temple.  Brother T. pointed out that the Israelites could not have kept the Pesach as the original one in Mitzraim, or at least the children of the original ones couldn't have, because they were not circumcised. Then we got into a discussion about how or why Moshe could have allowed this to happen over the forty years of wandering. What ever your position was on the subjects, we found the discussion very stimulating and thought provoking.  (notes courtesy of  Bro. Jack)
