Yom Shabbat January 26th, Location - Dr. Richard and Janice Clore's home 1:00-5:00pm  - Parsha 17 Yitro “Jethro” January 26, 2008 19 Sh’vat 5768 Exodus 18:1–20:23(26)* Alef Shmuel/1st Samuel 29, John 6 1-25-08 Parsha 17 Shemoth 18:1-20:26 18:8-9 Where we see Moshe dwelling on physical problems, Yithro dwells on the spiritual blessings. Verse 20 Just what were the ordinances referenced here? Are they the 613 mitzvoths? Were they the teachings and judgments given by Moshe? Were they the "oral" law? In the Hebrew this word translated 'ordinance' is Chuk In picking out leaders and rulers from among the people, how did Moshe make his decisions? We see this starting at the local level, with judges who most knew the people with whom they were going to be dealing. Could it be that Moshe started with the most righteous and asked them for references. In reading this section we see that Moshe has made at least 3 trips up the Mt. thus far. 19:5 Here we see Yah's marriage covenant with Israel. 20: 1 "The WORD of Elohim"  This is Yahushua, that fact that there were three days of set-apartness also lends itself to this understanding. 20:4-5 Reading the R.S. version of this could leave an impression that we are not to have picture or images of anything in our homes, as it does not explicitly distinguish that it is these things that we are not to worship. Throughout this section we see that the emphasis is on The Name. This led to much discussion concerning The Name and when and how we use it. Including a discussion a recent e-mailing about The Name. Which most were not too satisfied with as it apparently gives no indication of how the author thinks The Name should be pronounced. My own personal thoughts are that anyone who has to use the generic and pagan term g-d to refer to The Almighty One, probably doesn't have any kind of inside information worth listening to. I Schmuel 29:  YHWH probably caused the Plishtim rulers to turn against David, to keep David from having to fight against Saul and his army. An alternative to this is perhaps David was playing his part as an ally with the Plishtim in order to keep them from recognizing his true feelings for them, (the Plishtim). Yochanon 6:   5) Why does this verse refer to "The Feast of The Jews"? Could it be to distinguish from other groups which kept a different date and/or time? The R.S. version reads that Yahushua was walking along the shore, while His disciples were in the boat fighting the storm, but a number of reasons were presented why this could not be so, including that if the boat were so close to shore during such a violent storm, it would run the risk of being dashed to pieces on the shore. Also, if the distance to walk along the shore were easily walked, would not the followers have chosen that route as well? In verses 29-71 We see that Yahushua is pointing to the peoples lack of faith. he seems to be pushing them to believe even deeper. References verses for conversation were Jn.5:29;  Rev.14:12  and 12:17  (notes courtesy of bro. James)

Yom Shabbat January 19th, Location - Brother James and Sister Marciyah's home 1:00-5:00pm  - Parsha 16 Beshalach “When he sent” January 19, 2008 12 Sh’vat 5768 Exodus 13:17–17:16 Alef Shmuel/1st Samuel 28, John 5  1-19-08 Parsha 16  Shemoth 13:17-17:16 The repetition of "the covering" of the Egyptians is amazing. The fact that the words used here depict a veritable wall of water. Interesting to note that the words of the places; (Shur and Marah) actually depict the nature of the place and the nature of the people. Vrs.25 "listen and do" do they relate to Chuk and Mishpat? Are they a separate thing or do they convey a completeness in the text? 15:4-5 Here we find the initial command for what was later to become known to Israel as "the day of preparation". When all work, business, cooking, etc. was to be done in preparation for Shabbat. 16:23 Why does this verse mention that the Sabbath started 'tomorrow' when this is the sixth day? Should it not have read tonight begins the rest of the Shabbat? This led into a discussion of just when do we recon the Shabbat. Does it start at evening as Bereshith 1:5 seems to indicate, or was this another tradition carried from Babylon? Food for thought and study! Mention was made of references in 17:7 and 17:14. 17:8-16 here we notice that Amalek and "The Hand" are mentioned 8 separate times. IN the battle with Amelak we get a wonderful picture of how Yah's Kingdom works. Moshe as leader; whose arms are supported by Aaron, (the priestly line) and Hur who was from the kingly line of Judah, (the governmental line) . I Schmuel 28: Interesting  how this section returns to the problem with the Amelekites. And how Saul was being punished for not destroying them. (Would their destruction then have negated the hatred and atrocities committed against Israel today?). Was the witch of Endor trying to buy favor of her life from Saul by serving him such a lavish meal? Yochanon 5: No comments were added to this reading section.  (notes courtesy of bro. James)

Yom Shabbat January 12th, Location - The OLSONS 1:00-5:00pm  - Parsha 15 Bo “Come” January 12, 2008 5 Sh’vat 5768 Exodus 10:1–13:16  Alef Shmuel/1st Samuel 27, John 4 1-12-08 Parsha 15 Shemoth 10:1-13:16 Chapter 10; The book of Yahsher indicates that the Egyptians salted and ate these locusts. Since Moshe states that he will no longer look upon pharoah, and then we see him communicating to pharaoh, wonder is how did he address pharoah? Could it be that he gave pharaoh the untimate insult for a ruler, that is to have someone speak to them with out looking at them? 12:14 Pesach is a memorial; a time of rememberance, It is repeated 2 times for emphasis. These verses are very explicit in how it is to be observed, and by whom. A discussion ensued concerning the traditions and additions of the Rabbi's compared to the commands of the Torah. Questions brough up: Just who is permitted to keep the Pesach? What is the status of circumcision in the dispersion?13: All human first born were set-apart, both male and female, Only in the beasts do we find that the male gender was set-apart. Question brought forward: How do females perform in the Temple duties? An insight may be found in the story of Hanna the prophetess, who acknowledged Yahushua when He was brough into the Temple for circumcision. I Schmuel 27: Carmelites: were these people from the region of Mt. Carmel Yoch.4:12 The Samaritan woman was able to claim Jacob as an ancestor, without rebuke from Yahushua. 14 When we speak The WORD we are able to imerse others in The Living Waters The disciples appear to have been unaware of "the food" which Yahushua was speaking of, thus there amazement that Yahushua would receive food from a Samaritan woman. WE also assume from this verse that Yahushua knew that the Samaritan woman would go into to town and proclaim His presence, thus the reason for His needing to "feed" the townspeople. End of notes for 1-12 (notes courtesy of bro. James)

Yom Shabbat January 5th, Location Brother Randy's Home 1:00-5:00pm  - Parsha 14 Va’era “And I appeared” January 5, 2008 27 Tevet 5768 Exodus 6:2–9:35 Alef Shmuel/1st Samuel 26, John 3 (notes to come)1-5-08 Parsha 14 Shemoth 6:2- 9:35 Hosted by Bro. Randy 6:4  Strongs "1481" gerim: to turn aside from the way. Referenced to The Way The fact that Ya'acov was 147 years at his death, was mentioned, and wonder if there is any special significance to that number. 8:2 frogs; Strongs 6854 8:9 K.J. "glory over me" /R.S. "explain yourself to me" The Hebrew word used here is 'pehar' which means 'honor'. Moshe gave Pharoah the 'honor' of chosing the time when the frogs should be removed in order to show pharoah the YHWH was responsible and it was not just circumstance. 8:26-27 R.S. "the abomination of the Mitzirim" .  the Egyptians worshipped sheep- could this be the abomination refered to? 9:1 Apparently the Israelites were scattered throughout Egypt, nonoetheless, their people and livestock were protected. 9:34 (27) "sin" to miss the mark. I Schmuel 26:1  Wonder and amazement that David and Avishai were able to converse being so close to Shual and his body guards. Verse 21 As in the Parsha just read, we see the term used so many times by pharoah: "I have sinned". Yoch. 3:5 We notice that just as the first birth is through water (amino acids) and the breath of life is taken, so too do we find the picture of baptism. The water and the Ruach. We by our actions and attitudes limit the amount of; and the time when the Ruach is upon us. But Yahushua had the Ruach in full, all the time. He did nothing to grieve the Ruach!
