STUDIES IN JANUARY 06!

Shabbat Shul on the 28th of January, Location outside Hillsdale 1:00-4:00PM  Torah Parsha 14 Vayera 6:2-9:35 Haftarah Yechezkel 28:25-29:21 Brit Chadasha Romiyah 9:14-17 The Pharaoh, "Who knew not Elohim" was from a different dynasty then those who ruled in the time of Joseph. Also that he must have been very cold hearted to have allowed his pride bring about the death and destruction of so much of his kingdom. Also wonderment as to the reason for including 1 Cor. 7:1 along with the Brit Chadasha  reading of 1 Cor. 6:14-20. A tasty meal of meat and vegetable soup along with fruits and veggies and "Bible" bread followed. Fellowship during and after the meal centered on reminiscing family and local history, along with some humorous stories. (notes courtesy of Yac'ob)

Shabbat Shul on the 21st of January, Location Waldron 1:00-5:00PM  Torah Parsha 13 Shemot 1:1-6:1 Haftarah Yeshayahu 27:6-28:13 Brit Chadasha Yochanan 17:1-26 Was the first chapter of Shemoth, or Exodus which means "Names."  The portion dealt with YHWH's calling of Moshe, who was given the charge to approach Pharaoh and ask for the release of Yisrael.  Pharaoh f course rejects this and a great dram unfolds as Pharaoh is seen fighting against the decrees of the Almighty and suffering plague after plague for his rebellion.  Moshe is given several signs to convince the children of Yisrael that he is the spokesperson of the Elohim of their forefathers and that YHWH is with him.  Discussion revolved around several things we found of interest in the portion including the prophetic portents, types and shadows of the exodus drama and the coming of Messiah , as well as the final two house re-gathering of all Yisrael.  After the portion fellowship and meal.

Shabbat Shul on the 14nth of January, Location, Reading 1:00-6:00PM  Torah Parsha 12 Vayechi 47:28-50:26 Haftarah Melechim Alef 2:1-12 Brit Chadasha Ivrim 11:21-22 Kepha Alef 2:11-17  Shul opened with prayer as requests were taken and petitions made to YHWH.  Some initial fellowship time relating the events of the week and the recent events in Israel as well as the Pat Robertson Debacle (of which frankly, we agree with Pat ) as well as some tidbits regarding the upcoming Pesach that will be put on by Brother James with assistance from Baruch and others.  The Parsha dealt with the burial of Jacob's bones in the land that Abraham purchased and some additional notes were recounted regarding the story being further elaborated on in the book of Jasher. The most interesting subject for discussion was no doubt the famous chapter in Bereshith were Jacob blesses each son, and we discussed their prophetic fulfillment in some detail including that of Judah, Simeon and Levi, and Joseph, the fruitful bough.  An excellent dinner of Brisket, mashed potatoes, and extras (special thanks to sister Judith for her efforts!) .

Erev Shabbat Shul in Jackson at Brother Jack's home on the 13nth of January 2006, 6:00-9:30PM! - Cancelled

Shabbat Shul on the 7nth of January, Location Reading 1:00-6:00PM  Discussions and fellowship mostly centered around the Torah Parsha 11 Vayigash 41:18-47:27 Haftarah Yehchezkel 37:15-28 Brit Chadasha Yochanan 10:11-19  Discussed how the famine was so bad in the land that the people gave all their silver and gold to pharaoh, and then gave all their cattle and beasts, and finally sold all their land and their very own selves as slaves to pharaoh with the understanding that in time, when the famines was over, they would render 1/5 back to pharaoh as his portion.  Some discussion developed regarding the types and shadows of that allotment. After the Portion, prayer was offered and the meal was blessed. (special thanks to sister Judith for meal preps on a great southern meal!)  Fellowship ensued after the meal and the Hebrew flashcard Cards were used for Hebrew vocabulary memory drills. The specific card set that we are using can be found here. We also use the Sounds of Hebrew Flashcards to enhance the understanding of the Hebrew consonants and vowels combinations in words.
