STUDIES IN JUNE 06!

Sabbath Shul, June 24rth, Location Jackson, 1:00-5:00PM  Torah Parsha 38 Korach 16:1-18:32 Haftarah Schmuel Alef 11:14-12:22 Brit Chadasha Yahudah 1-25 Some initial comments and questions regarding the sign associated with the tribe of Dan, and its prophetic portents  Dan apparently has dual signs in the heaven, which may fit into the prophetic eschatology, and the fact that they are missing in the roll call in the book of revelations. The portion dealt with the rebellion of Korah, who was a Levite, and who spoke evil words against Moshe. A further sign of the fact that Moshe was called to lead, and that Aaron was called to be the high priest, is Aarons rod that budded. Some discussions on where the rod came from, and some thoughts that it could have been passed down as far back as Enoch, to Noah, to Shem, to Abraham, to Moses, to Aaron. Some discussions on what a Ger means in terms of the context of approaching the tabernacle, of which it was considered a death sentence. Questions on what a covenant of salt means, and the answers from various translations and sources that it means an everlasting covenant, something that does not wear out or fade away easily. Excellent dinner and fellowship!

Sabbath Shul, June 17nth, Location outside Jackson, 1:00-5:00PM  Torah Parsha 37 Shlach Lecha 13:1-15:41 Haftarah Yahoshua 2:1-24 Brit Chadasha Ivrim 3:7-19 Dealt with the spies that were sent into Canaan land to check out the land and return back with a report for the people. The two that did come back with a good report, were representative of both houses of Israel. Caleb was from the house of Judah, grafted into that house as a natural born citizen, and Joshua was an Ephraimite. Some discussion on the name, and how they tell a story, in the Hebrew. After Moshe told the people that their wicked heart of unbelief would cost them their land and their inheritance, they rebelled and tried to go up against the inhabitants anyway, but were beat back immediately, and then they turned against Moshe, and there was the great punishment from the throne of Yah.  Some parallels to the book of Jeremiah in this thinking, as some went off to Egypt and were punished.  Some Etymological insights as the word that is used for "spy" is a Hebrew word "tor" meaning that they went to view the land, not necessarily with the notion of military tactics.

Sabbath Shul, June 10nth, Location outside Hillsdale, 1:00-5:00PM  Parsha 36 was read and verse 7 of Numbers/Bamidar 8 brought the first comment/ question. As with the Nazerite vow, the command is that all the hair on the body is to be shaved. Was there a special significance to this? A good deal of discussion surrounded this topic, with no real answer forthcoming. Verse 16 also brought up the question of just what was the reason for the redundancy of the bachor belonging to YHWH? Since Monte Judah comments that when we see something repeated it is a sure sign that there is a hidden message for us. No speculations were made though. 9:21-22  Are we prepared for our "exodus"?  will we be any less prone to complain then Israel? If we go through all the trouble to set up our camp, will we complain if we move out the following day. Chapter 10 begins with the command concerning the blowing of the silver trumpets, which was apparently only done by the priests. Does that same stipulation cover the blowing of the shofar? Chapter 11: the topic of verse 15 was what "evil" was Moshe referring to? Also the sheer numbers of the quail which would have fallen to the ground; to cover the entire camp to a depth of 2 cubits (36") This would surely had made things very difficult for the Israelites, hindering their movements and such.  We had an excellent spaghetti dinner and much good fellowship around the table. Todah Rabah to Bro. randy for his hospitality. (notes courtesy of Yaacov)

Sabbath Shul, June 3rd, Location Waldron, 1:00-5:00PM. Torah Parsha 35 Naso 4:21-7:89 Haftarah Shophtim 13:2-25 Brit Chadasha Maaseh Shlichim 21:17-32 Some discussions on the parallels between the ascension of a Levitical priest and some Drash comparisons of the rise of the Nation of Israel that occurred at the important years of 8, 13, 20, 30. Some discussions on marriage and some of the laws that apply, as we discussed the cup of jealousy. Some questions put forth regarding the Nazarite vow, and the shaving of the head, the reasoning for this. Excellent dinner and fellowship!

Shavuot, June 1st, Location Savarinoes, Hillsdale MI  Fantastic Shavuot in the Upper Room at Savarinoes restaurant, where we enjoyed a wonderful dinner and fellowship. The Shavuot Torah Portion was read and discussed - Shemot Chapters 19 & 20 Bamidbar 28:26-31 Wayiqra 23:16-22 Maaseh Shlichim 2:1-47. Some of the points were the usage of the Set Apart Name as important for the Renewed Covenant Israel , as well as the importance of converging on the three Set Part Moedim, that of Passover, Shavuot, and Sukkoth.  The location , along with the company, as well as newcomers who joined us, made this years Shavuot a blessed time to remember. We look forward to performing the Miqra Kodesh next year, should Yahshua tarry yet another year.
