Why do some of your men choose to wear a men's head covering/Kippot?
Some of us from Nazarene/Messianic Israel wear a type of Kippot/Headcovering during our
Shul time. There is some confusion as to whether or not this is in
"order" since the churches all teach that men are not to have a
covering on. In fact, it is considered bad taste to wear even a hat in the
churches and especially bad if you have it on while you pray. They get
this idea from Paul's letter to the Corinthians CJB
( Complete Jewish Bible by David Stern) 1Corinthians 11:4 Every man who prays or prophesies wearing something over his head brings
shame to his head. In our view, the context of this scripture is about men
who would wear a "veil" type garment on their head, thus making them
look like women. We know this because the same Greek word is used in
reference to a woman's headcovering 2572
- Ka-ta---(down) ka-lup-'to---(to cover up, hide) . If this scripture speaks of
a covering for men that "covers up or hides," it is then our
understanding that this text does not attempt to change the teachings found in
the TaNaK/OT where the priests are commanded to have their head covered. Leviticus
