Mitzvah 32

A teaching by Ya'cob

Mitzvah 30. Not to cherish hatred in one's heart (Lev. 19:17)

Lev./Wayyiqra 19:17

Leviticus/ Wayyiqra 19:17 "Do not hate your brother in your heart. Reprove your brother, for certain, and bear no sin because of him"

The word translated here as 'HATE' is accurately translated from the Hebrew word 'SANE'.     Webster's defines ' hate' as: "to feel enmity (hostility) or, bitter aversion (reluctance) toward someone or something. To dislike intensely." WE LIVE IN A WORLD FILLED WITH AND CONTROLLED BY HATE. Everywhere we look we see the product of hate. Wars, killings, assaults, these are just the by-products of hate. HATE IS AN EMOTION !!!

Gen./Bere'shith 4:3-8

Genesis/Bereshith 4:3-8 "And it came to be, in the course of time, that Qayin/Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to YHWH. 4) And Hebel/Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock, and of the fat.  And YHWH looked to Hebel and his offering, 5) but HE did not look to Qayin and his offering. And Qayin was very wroth , and his face was fell. 6) And YHWH said to Qayin, "Why are you wroth? And why is your face fallen? 7) If you do well, is there not acceptance? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should master it." 8) And Qayin told Hebel his brother. And it came to be when they were in the field, that Qayin rose up against Hebel his brother and killed him."

Again we look to Webster's who defines 'ANGER' as : "an emotion of keen displeasure and hostility, caused by a sense of injury" (NOTE THE WORD HOSTILITY AGAIN) Anger and hate have one commonality, HOSTILITY !! Here we have the familiar story of Cain and Abel. Cain was a tiller of the soil, so he brought an offering to YHWH from his field. Abel was an husbandman, (one who raises animals), he brought an offering of his flock to YHWH. So why did YHWH pick Abel's offering over Cain's? Although the Writings do not give us a direct answer to this, there is a clue we can pick up on. Verse 3 says that Cain brought an offering from the fruit of his field, NOTICE; it did not say that it was the first fruit that was being offered. Whereas... Verse 4 states that Abel brought the firstborn of his flock. Throughout the Writings we see that when YHWH asks for an offering, it is always the first fruit or the firstborn. Perhaps because Cain did not offer up the first fruits of his fields, his offering was an offense to YHWH. Another factor we might consider is that Cain was the firstborn, perhaps there was sibling rivalry, jealousy, and a grudge that he held against Abel. As we learned in last weeks lesson on Mitzvah # 32, when we come before YHWH, we are not to be bearing grudges against others. (Please let me stress here that this supposed grudge is only a speculation.) at any rate we see that the result of Cain's hatred was murder of his brother.

Prov./Mishle 10:12

" Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all transgressions"  In this verse, Solomon; in his wisdom, explains one of the problems with hatred. IT STIRS UP STRIFE !! When we harbor hatred in our hearts, it act like a cancer. It quietly grows within us, slowly destroying that which is good, and developing into bitterness. We see this so much in our families today. Someone has a bad day, perhaps somebody at work did something to make us mad; this turns into hatred, we keep that hatred brewing in us and it turns into bitterness. It eats away the good (the love) we have for our families, until it finally bursts forth in anger and rage against the very one's we love. Domestic violence is a major result of this pent up hatred.

I John/I Yohanan 3:15

"Everyone hating his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has everlasting life staying in him'"  These words of John express the very words of Yahushua, which equate hate with murder.  Remember HATE IS AN EMOTION !!

Matt./ Mattithyahu5:43-48

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44) But I say to you, "love your enemies, bless those cursing you, do good to those hating you, and pray for those insulting you and persercuting you, 45) so that you become sons of your Father in the Heavens. Because HE makes HIS sun to rise on the wicked and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. 46) For if you love those loving you, what reward have you? Are the tax collectors not doing the same? 47) And if you greet your brothers only, what do you do more than others? Are the tax collectors not doing so too?    48) Therefore, be perfect, as your Father in the Heavens is perfect.'"

Here we have The Messiah's own words telling us we must not hold hatred against anyone, including our enemies! In fact HE states that if we want to be perfect as the Father is perfect, we must... (verse 44) "love you enemies, bless those cursing you, do good to those hating you, and pray for those who insult and persecute us." This is how we become, "sons of YHWH' (45). This may sound like a pretty big expectation, and indeed it is. It is no easy thing to show love towards those who hurt us and misuse us. But our Messiah; Yahushua gave us the perfect example as HE hung on the stake. In spite of all the torture HE had endured at the hands of the Roman guards and all the pain HE had suffered at the instigation of the Pharisees and Sadducees, He cried out to Abba, YHWH to " forgive them for they know not what they do". Luke 23:34.

Eph. 4:31-32

"Let all bitterness, and wrath, and displeasure, and uproar, and slander be put away from you, along with all evil. 32) And be kind towards one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as Elohim also forgave you in Messiah."

Heb./Ibrim 12:14-15

"Pursue peace with all, and pursue apartness without which no one shall see the Master. 15) See to it that no one falls short of the favor of Elohim, that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, by which many are defiled."   In these 2 sets of scriptures we see Paul admonishing us to avoid bitterness, the product of hatred. NOTICE, he lumps it all in with evil, which we must put out of our lives. In Heb 12: 15  Paul points out the the root of bitterness defiles us. If we hold hatred and bitterness against others, we are not forgiving in our attitudes. And as verse 32 of Eph. 4 above stated; we must be forgiving if we expect to be forgiven.

IN CONCLUSION: Hatred is of Satan, and is one of the most power weapons he has with which to destroy us. It no only destroys us personally, but destroys others through us. His hatred for YHWH and HIS Righteousness led him to rebel against Elohim.

His hatred for mankind and their potential position as 'sons of YHWH' led him to deceive eve and through Eve; Adam.

His hatred for the followers of YHWH led him to deceive some in the early church, causing them to accept pagan customs and practices in their worship.

His hatred for Yahushua Ha Mashiach led him to stir up Judas and the Pharisees against Yahushua, that HE might be killed; but he did not realize that this was all part of Yahweh's plan to redeem mankind to HIMSELF.  His hatred for the TRUE followers of Yahushua will eventually lead to another great persecution by 'the beast' and finally to the last great war which will usher in the return Messiah and the binding of Satan himself,. Then he will be cast into the bottomless pit, as Messiah takes up the reign of the governments of men all over the earth and throughout the universe. And the saints will rule beside HIM as HE establishes the Kingdom of YHWH here on earth, centered in the New Jerusalem. Come Gracious Yahushua, come!
