STUDIES IN NOVEMBER 05

Erev Shabbat Shul, NOV 4rth, Hillsdale Location 6:00-9:30PM - This was a very good Shul full of various discussions. The Parsha was number 2 and was titled Noach / Noah - Genesis 6:9 - 11:32.  Due to the late nature of this notation, details are sketchy. (excellent dinner , special thanks to brother Randy.)

Shabbat Shul Shul, NOV 12th Marshall Location 2:00-7:00PM Brother Wayne opened in prayer. Brother James shared information regarding his experience at Sukkoth.  James felt led to establish a Sukkoth here in Michigan in the future. Brother James felt that he had never worked with a group of young people as committed and spiritually mature as this group.  The youth were a great bunch of kids.  All of the children were home schooled and all but one were Messianic believers.  The one young man was being led toward the Messianic beliefs.

There was a young couple who were on an extended honeymoon.  In his past the young husband had been Chassidic, and his wife was raised Amish, the blending of the two were a perfect match.  She moved over into the Messianic lifestyle easily.  Her lineage can be traced back to the Levitical line.  This man has said that he would speak if James organized a Michigan Sukkoth.

It rained during the feast, but it is said that if it rains during the feast it is a blessing.  James is looking at both Marble Springs and Summerset, Kimball camp and Camp Selah.  There needs to be alcohol allowed because the feast commands that wine and strong drink be drunk and that there be wine and water oblations.  There was conversation around the Shul table regarding whether the wine and the strong drink is Torah commanded, the scriptures were quoted by Brother Gregory.  There is a problem with state campgrounds not offering an area where everyone can gather such as a clubhouse or a meeting area.  If we do it we will have to have catered meals.  Brother James talked about how it would take everyone being involved in making the feast work.  South Central Michigan would be the ideal as it would draw people from both northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.  It will take all of the group working very hard to handle all of the details, the catering, the speaking, and the logistics.

Before we started reading the scripture, Brother Wayne pointed out some of the errors in the Restoration Scriptures.  There are punctuation errors that change the whole meaning of the verse(s).  One of these is Luke 23:43.  Brother Gregory pointed out that the difference was between the translators believing either in soul sleep or in immediate resurrection.  The punctuation shows either that there is a time of waiting, or there is immediate resurrection after death.  There was discussion about whether the scriptures show anything other than the difference in doctrinal beliefs regarding the concept of soul sleep…the comma placement in that verse will always show what the translators believe about the concept.

There was discussion of the Restoration Scriptures missing books; Joel, Obadiah, and two others.  There are some plurals that should be singular, and singulars that should be plural.

Parsha 3   There was discussion about whether the Canaanites were already in the land and that YHWH’s people have still not taken the land to the Euphrates River. This means that the land has never been totally possessed and it will still need to be totally possessed in the future. The group talked about how Sarah had given her handmaid, Hagar, to Abraham.  Brother Gregory showed how there was a difference between the Hebrew tribal patriarchal agrarian society and a Greco-Roman industrial society, and mores and the relationships and attitudes would have been quite different.   It was a sin for any of them to think that this was a fulfillment of the promise of YHWH to give Abraham a son.  Ishmael was not the son of the promise, and it was wrong to believe such or to raise him to believe such. Brenda pointed out that Ishmael was to always have his hand raised against his brothers.  This is the beginning of the problem among the Arabs and between the Arabs and the Jews.  They descend from the same Father Abraham, but having been robbed of what people promised Ishmael, he felt betrayed and angered when what had been promised went, rightfully, to Isaac.  This battle still goes on…because Ishmael was never the son of the promise, even though he was raised that way prior to Sarah bearing Isaac. Brother Wayne talked about when he reads about YHWH blessing Sarah and Abraham with a child and then Yahshua doing the same thing with Miriam.

The group talked about how the only way to atone for the shedding of innocent blood is the shedding of the blood of the guilty and how this affects the United States, especially with regard to abortion, the release of murderers and serial killers, etc.

Shabbat Shul Shul, NOV 19nth Reading Location 1:00-:800PM This Shul was one of the best Shuls we have had in a long time as sever al brothers showed up and studied Torah Parsha 4 Vayera 18:1-22:24 Haftarah Melechim Bet 4:1-37 Brit Chadasha Yaakov 2:14-24. We also welcomed a new brother in our fellowship and thanked YAH for that opportunity to get to know him. We spoke at length regarding the situation with Lot and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah as well as several other key points in the portion.  Dinner was served and fellowship ensued.

Shabbat Shul 26th of November, Location Outskirts of Nashville 2:00-6:00PM - Big turnout…Randy Champion, David and Debbie Olson, Troy, Jack and his brother and sister-in-law, and eight children.  David Olson opened in prayer and said the blessing for reading the Torah in both Hebrew and English.  We reviewed the Hebrew words for the Parsha portion “The Life of Sarah,” and the various interpretations of the Hebrew words that are in today’s Parsha portion.  Discussion of Chapter 24:60 and who will be blessed and who will be cursed.  Jack said that he believes that we are the scattered tribes of Israel and that we are being called out of the Churches.  He stated he thought the sons of Shem were being called out of the Churches and the traditions of men.  David added that it could be called out the temples, the mosques, and the world also.   Discussed whom Laban was related to and how he was related to Abraham.  Gregory shared some thoughts on Laban’s heritage and how he came from Ur of the Chaldees.  There was discussion about the days of Abraham and how he knew how to live and lived right.  He trusted YHWH and did not fret and worry thereby wasting time from his life. Troy brought up the living conditions, and the style of living with the animals underneath the humans in the dwellings, and that this meant that they lived with both clean and unclean animals. The group took notice of the wording of the Scripture that stated that the descendents of Ishmael were tribes, whereas the descendents of Isaac were nations. Other discussions ensued and a great dinner was served, (special thanks to sister Debbie Olson for her excellent Matza Ball Soup and extras!) of which we all were grateful. We look forward to the next Shul and the fellowship.
