STUDIES IN NOVEMBER 06!

Yom Shabbat, November 25th, Hillsdale Location, 1:00-5:00PM  Parsha 6 Toldot “Generations”  4 Kislev 5767 Genesis 25:19–28:9 Yahoshua 16, Mattiyahu 16.  The portion was discussed and several comments were touched on including but not limited to the method in which the meat was slaughtered that Isaac ate from the hand of Esau his sons, the commentaries of the Rabbis regarding the two sons Esau and Isaac, and some other comments interspersed. Some Rabbis say that Isaac was blind because in their perception, he is slaughtering un-kosher according to their standards. Some questions on how we know that the Roman day Saturday is the Sabbath and some answers to that question round about.  Great fellowship and meal, plus some creative Davidic dancing! A great time of fellowship and study.

Yom Shabbat, November 18nth, Waldron Location, 1:00-6:00PM  Parsha 5 Genesis 23:1–25:18 Chayei Sarah “Sarah’s life”, Yahoshua 15, Mattiyahu 15.  Several discussions evolved during the reading.  The story of Abraham buying a burial field and how Sarah died was discussed in the Parsha. The marriage of Isaac to Rebecca was discussed as well, and some points were made concerning the method that many youngsters find their mates today, in contrast to what occurred for Isaac. There were some Isaac and Rebecca hospitality parallels, and some discussions on how YHWH really takes seriously the hospitality level of people. This is something that has been affecting our group of late.  Some sources suggest that when the oath was given, and the hand was placed on the thigh, this was a euphemism for something more intimate, more powerful in its character.  Some discussions on the differences in the culture of the middle east Bedouin culture as reagards marriage and living arrangements, versus our culture today. The Haf-Torah was more of the Allotments of the land to Judah and the Brit Chadasha portion dealt with the Canaanite woman who followed Yahshua and cried out after him on behalf of her daughter who was grievously ill. The level of faith it took, and the spiritual pattern of pagan nations flowing to him was commented on.
