Yom Shabbat October 20th, Location Brother James' House 1:00-5:00PM - Parsha 3 Lech Lecha “Go out” October 20, 2007 8 Cheshvan 5768 Genesis 12:1–17:27 Alef Shmuel/1st Samuel 15, Luke 16 10-20 Parsha 3 Ber.12-17 12 Just as Avram journeyed to Shechem; Beth El; and Mitzraim, so too would Israel generations later. what is, is what shall be. 13 We noticed that after Lot had chosen to move Eastward in the area of Sodom, that Yah tells Avram that his decendants would inherit all the land to the North, South; West; and East. Which would include the lant which Lot had chosen. Did Avram realize that this meant that Lot would somehow lose his choice land? 14 Chedarlaomer was; according to the sages, the son of Shem. If; as most teachers of Torah beleive, (and the book of Enoch, or perhaps Yasher attest) that Melech-Tzedek is indeed Shem, then he would have greeted Avraham very cordially considering that he had just killed Shem's son. A discussion ensued as to whether this Melech-Tzedek was indeed Shem. It was also pointed out that Yochanan the Immerser was the son of Zadoc who in turn was of the lineage of Melech-Tzedek. 15 Discussion was centered around verse 17; What was the 2 items mentioned concerning the brit being made? (i.e. the smoking furnace, and the flaming torch) Might they have been different manifestations of YHWH? Also, a discussion ensued concerning the ancient rite of make a brit by dividing and animal and walk between the pieces. 17 How do we know who are the descendants of Ishmael today? It is generally agreed that Ishmael too has been widely dispersed among the nations of the earth. I Shmuel 16 Why did Samuel command that the elders of the city to purify themselves? might it be that because he came to them without any apparent warning that they may have been unclean in one area or another of their lives? Why was David left out by his father in the calling of his sons to the sacrifice that Samuel called for? Could it be that he was born out of a wrong relationship, as Psalms 51:5 seems to indicate? Did Samuel leave right after annointing David, or did he stay for the meal? How might David's anointing to be king have affected his brother? It is interesting that Yah seems fit and able to place David within Saul's court so that he might receive training concerning Kingly affairs. Luke 16 (We apparently missed chapter 15 somehow) In the "House of Yahweh's" Scriptures verse 16 reads that "every man is pressed into the Kingdom", leaving the impression that he is forced into Yah's Kingdom; whereas most other versions read that the man presses his way into the Kingdom, or as some others read, enters it through a violent struggle. This would appear to be the more logical understanding as we all must fight battles with self-will in order to overcome those things which hinder us from entering Yah's Kingdom (notes courtesy of bro. James)

Yom Shabbat October 13th, Location Brother Randy's Home - Parsha 2 Noach “Noah” October 13, 2007 1 Cheshvan 5768 Genesis 6:9–11:32 Alef Shmuel/1st Samuel 14, Luke 15 10/13 Parsha 2 Ber. 7- 11 The question was asked concerning how the carnivores aboard the ark would have been fed. One speculation was that the animals which tend to multiply quickly (i. e. rats, rabbits, etc) were fed to them. Another speculation was that for the duration, YHWH caused them to become herbivores. In 7:3 we noticed that there seemed to be no distinction in clean and unclean fowl coming onto the ark. Another question concerned why was it necessary for Noah and his family to be shut in a full 7 days before the rains actually started. Was it to protect them from those outside who may have become angry with them? Was it a test of their faith? Several other speculations which I didn't have time to write down were also given. 7:11 "the windows of heaven" brought up a remark that there is a teaching that there are 2 stars in the sky that were/are referred to as a window, perhaps a large ice asteroid came from that direction and melting when it hit the earth's atmosphere, caused a deluge of gigantic proportions. "The fountains of the deep" also brought speculations as to how much water was actually within the earth, and perhaps the earth was not covered with the amount of water that we see in the oceans now. Another comment was made that there are books that suggest that a comet circled the earth causing great tidal disturbances. This brought up the topic that there was recently a large canyon created practically overnight by the bursting of a reservoir not long ago, adding credibility the the Creationist's theory that the Grand Canyon was not a product of millions of years of erosion. 9:3 How do we read and understand what was/is permissible for food? This concludes the comments made in Ber. and no comments were made on either the reading of I Shmuel 15; or from Luke 14: (notes courtesy of bro. James)
