Yom Shabbat  September 13 , Location Michigan, Harlyn and Peggy Smith 1:00pm-5:00pm Parsha 49 Ki Tetze “When you go” September 13, 2008 13 Elul 5768 Deut. 21:10–25:19 Alef Melachim/1st KINGS 7, Acts 18 9-13-08  Parsha 49  Devarim 21:10-25:19 21: 10-14 When the Israelites brought home captive women whom they desired as wives, they were given the ability to "put them away" if you were not pleased with them. Why would this be so? Because the hope was that they would become content to live as Israelites; but the fact that "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink." may have been the reason for the displeasure with these women. Thus they would have been unequally yoked. Verse 15 It is important to note here that there is no condemnation for plural marriage. Had YHWH objected to multiple marriage, here would have been an opportune time to address that. Verse 23 A clear reference to HaMoshiach, that HE became 'cursed" for our sake. HE took our curse upon HIMSELF, thus HE had to be hung on a tree. 22:5 This is a widespread abomination in western society today. Men dressing up as women and women dressing in what has become acceptable as men's wear. Verse 10 We are not to be unequally yoked; either in marriage, business; nor are we to be, as Israelites returning to Torah, unequally with or to gentiles. i.e. dabbling in the Christian churches. Verse 30 In the Hebrew terminology, this is referring to a situation where a brother who refuses to take a dead brothers wife has a son who then takes his aunt. Another abomination for Israelites. 23:2 The word translated as 'bastard, illegitimate" in some translations is actually the Hebrew word "mamzer". This actually refers to someone either born of incest, or from an extramarital affair of the woman. Verses 3-8 Why the differing time limitations for these 2 separate groups? Because while the Edomite and Egyptian were known to be haters and killers of Israel, the worse sin was for those who led Israel to sin against YHWH. This should be a warning to false preachers/teachers today. 24:3-4 This teaching flies in the face of modern Christianity which teaches that we should forgive and restore the "wayward' woman to her former husband. This was a teaching that worldwide was guilty of. Verses 17-22 We are blessed for the kindnesses that we extend to the stranger, widow, and fatherless. 25:5-10 Another positive aspect concerning plural marriage. If both brothers are married, and ones dies without a son, the other is commanded to take his brother's wife as his own, regardless of whether the living brother is already married. Again we see where Abba YHWH makes a provision for plural marriage. Verse 13-16 Dishonesty is abhorred by YHWH, in all our dealings we must be honest and upright, as befits ambassadors of Yah's Kingdom. Aleph Melechim 7 So very much symbolism in these verses describing The Temple and accouterments. Also amazing is the vast amount of bronze used here. Acts 18 While most of the apostles of HaMoshiach were but common men; many being fishermen, who would have been considered quite unlearned by the Pharisees, Paul, on the other hand was very educated. Perhaps this is the reason his letters were written in such a way as to be easily misunderstood and misinterpreted. Those who challenge Paul's apostleship need to read what the other apostles said about his being an apostle as well. A problem many in the Messianic community don't seem to grasp. A fine meal of fresh fruit, fresh bread and juice was provided, Todah to the Smith family for opening their hearts and home. (notes courtesy of bro. James)

Yom Shabbat  September 6 , Location Michigan, Harlyn and Peggy's Home 1:00pm-5:00pm Parsha 48 Shoftim “Judges” September 6, 2008 6 Elul 5768 Deut. 16:18–21:9 Alef Melachim/1st KINGS 6, Acts 17 9-6-08 Parsha 48  Devarim 16:18-21:9 Verse 22 How much do we take for granted the effect upon us of attending 'churches' with these pillars/steeples? We are told to avoind them; Israel was to destroy those that were in The Land. 17:5-6 Many in the churches today have a problem with this command to destroy the people who are pagan in their lifestyles. It is not "politically correct" in thier eyes; yet Yah's command was/is righteous. It is better to cut out the "cancer' of sin then to let it remain to infect the entire body. When the 144,000 come onto the scene; they will tell it like it is, not as today's preachers who "tickle the ears". Verse 15 A prophecy of Israels rejection of YHWH as their King; over 400 years before it happened. 18:3 What is the significance of "the cheeks and stomach". These seem to be parts that one would not normally consider as food. This led to a discussion of clean and unclean foods, and the christian churchs desire to deny that Yah knows what is best for us. 18:19 Reading between the lines: anyone who proclaims to be a teacher of Torah, must teach in The True Name of YHWH. verse 20 Even some who teach using The True Name are not teachers of truth. We need to be very discerning, and rely on The Word, and The Ruach to lead us in understanding, not the teachings of men. 19: We see here the teaching of putting to death the person who takes another  persons' life. It is because we as a nation do not practice this that we are being cursed. Especially in the case of the unborn. Aleph Melachim/I Kings 6: We see in this chapter the names of 2 of the Hebrew names for the months of Yah's calender. 23+33 As the olive tree is representative of Israel, we see here 2 fine references to the 2 houses of Israel. Acts 17:22 Many christians overlook this verse about Paul entering into the synagogue to teach on the Shabbat,  Just as they choose to overlook the Scriptures that tell us that HaMoshiach, and the apostles did the same. After the teaching and the closing liturgy, we had a short discussion concerning the "sacrifices" mentioned in Yermeyahu 7:22. The people of Israel had been in Egypt for so long that they had forgotten the sacrifices offered by there forefathers, and "on the day" that YHWH delivered them out of Egypt, HE did not give them such a command. Nor was the Pesach lamb refered to as a sacrifice at that time. Only after they had reached Mt. Senai did they recieve the commands for sacrifices. Though it is obvious that from the time of Cain and Able; there were sacrifices being made.  (notes courtesy of bro. James)
